Blagoevgrad is a beautiful city in southwestern Bulgaria, administrative center of Blagoevgrad and Blagoevgrad community. It is the most populated municipality in Blagoevgrad Province (over 70,000 inhabitants) and is highly urbanized – 91% of all the people live in the city.
The municipality has a very favorable location – it is very easy to get to any part of the country. Another advantage is nature – the city lies on the banks of the picturesque Blagoevgradska Bistritsa River at the foot of the Rila Mountains.
The main strengths of the district are rich mineral resources, well developed touristic sector, significant water and forest supply, potential for use of alternative sources of energy.
Blagoevgrad Municipality is aiming to increase employment and facilitate economic growth, expand the industry sector and ameliorating the business climate for SME’s. There is also a focus on ways to attract investment in the fields of tourism and innovation, as well as the strengthening of cooperation with border regions of Bulgaria.
